COVID19 Sanitation Procedures

Licensed cosmetologists have certain safety and sanitation standards that by law we must adhere to all year round. The list of minimum sanitation requirements is a mile long. Daily procedures that reduce the spread of disease include; washing or sanitizing hands in between each guest, using a separate cape on each guest, and cleaning tools and implements between each guest. Essentially, if it touched someone else, it should not be touching you.

In order to keep everyone safe during the Caronavirus outbreak we have added to our normal routine by cleaning frequently touched surfaces, limiting touch points, and wearing masks. Below you will see a breakdown of the safety procedures as they relate to a changed guest experience.

Many of you are aware that I have a lung condition. I have been blessed to continue to have a good immune system. This being said, getting sick can be the difference between life and death for someone battling a chronic illness. The common cold or flu may make a typically healthy person sick for a week. However, a cold or flu can put a chronically ill person into the hospital – or worse.

When someone is sick and has to cancel their appointment, it is always appreciated. Its always sad when an appointment has to be postponed. The most important thing however, is the recovery of the guest and the containment of the sickness. Since the outbreak of Caronavirus, we have had a few guests cancel their appointment. We commend these acts of selflessness, and know that together we can help keep these viruses contained.

Self-Care

Self-care is the practice of taking care of not only your body, but your mind and soul too. Self-Care is all encompassing. I have long been a proponent of the old saying, “when you look good you feel good.” There is a certain undeniable psychological effect that occurs during a hair appointment. Every time I walk out of the salon after getting my hair done, I feel like dang model.

When you take proper care of your whole self, you are better able to take proper care of others. A few years ago I analyzed my actions, and realized that I needed to make choices that made my health and wellness a top priority. Every year after the chaotic holiday season I realize that self-care has flown out the window.

Courtney and I have both been talking for months about needed to get our hair done, but it seems there is never enough time. I’ve decided that I can no longer be a hypocrite, I need to make time for my own hair care needs too! Why is there never enough time? Because we aren’t making time for it. Making people feel good about themselves is a real treat for me, but I want to feel good too!

In a few weeks I have a hair date, and I can’t wait!

In honor of the New Year, and a commitment to practice better self-care I am offering a Brazilian Blowout Special. Blowouts booked in the month of January will only cost $150. This is a savings of up to $250 dollars.

What is a Brazilian Blowout?

Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing treatment, that improves the condition of the hair by encapsulating the strands in a protein layer. This treatment will eliminate frizz and strengthen the hair cuticle. Blowouts last up to 12 weeks and there is no line of demarcation between new hair growth and old hair growth.

Winter is Coming

We are well into fall, and the news outlets are calling for a harsh cold winter. The cold winter air can be very damaging to hair, rendering it dry and brittle, thus causing it to be frizzy and tangle easily. There are a few steps that can be taken to alleviate the stress of winter on the hair.

The main culprit in Winter is the lack of moisture in the air. There are many ways to combat hair that is lacking in moisture:

  • Get a deep conditioning treatment – These can be done in the salon, or in the privacy of your own home. I recommend getting a deep treatment at the salon, and investing in an at home treatment to use every few washes.
  • Use an oil. Oils can be used on wet and dry hair. Sometimes oil can weigh down fine hair, or make it greasy. To combat this apply some oil or a shine spray to a boar hair bristle brush and use on the ends when the hair is dry.
  • Spray Mask – If the hair is still feeling dry use a spray mask for even more added moisture.

In addition to keeping the hair moisturized it is important to keep the cuticle sealed and the ends from splitting.

  • Invest in a keratin treatment. Keratin treatments build strength and seal the hair cuticles. If someone is not wanting a full keratin treatment one alternative is the Brazilian professionals split end mending treatment.
  • Use a satin or sateen pillow case. Hair will slip across the slippery fabric thus keeping the hair from getting tangled and roughed up as it can with cotton, fleece and flannel. Self Magazine advises lining winter hats with silky fabric as well.
  • Self Magazine also cautions not going outside in the cold with wet hair. They explain that when items are cold they expand, and a persons hair shaft will expand as well, damaging the cuticle.
  • Keep split ends trimmed – when the ends start to split, they will continue to split up the hair shaft unless they are cut, or break off. The damage will rough up the surrounding hairs multiplying the damage and frizz.

Keep these things in mind, book some appointments and order your products to keep your hair in picture perfect shape all winter long.
